Are you too old?

Jul 04, 2024

One thing that is consistent in my life is I find myself in interesting conversations with interesting people usually while doing interesting things…

This was the case about 3 weeks ago and a big lesson in this chat…

I am always in 2 perspectives... It might be a blessing and it might be a curse...

I am IN the conversation and I am OBSERVING the conversation...

The IN part is me, looking through my own eyes and feeling it from the ME perspective...

The OBSERVATION perspective is simply seeing it for what it is... and the fabric of life and experiences and communication being exchanged...

Secondly, it is not influenced by emotion or ego or anything... It simply just IS...

Here's a little story to illustrate..

I was chatting with a guy on a little island in Fiji...

He had just come in, was walking up the sand from kitesurfing 'clicking' for the first time... he experienced it!

Anyway one part of the chat led to the other and suddenly we are talking about software...

I was chatting about languages I used to code in and how I worked on the year 2000 project when the world was going to end because of only 2 digit years etc...

I was chatting about writing software that wrote software based on models and would analyze a relational database schema and create hundreds of base levels files etc...

All late 90's...

Then we chatted about his software and I watched something happen...

A switch flicked...

He went into sniper mode...

His conversation was specific, intentional and strategic...

The ultimate clarity...

That is when I realized...

This young guy was the 'billionaire' on the island...

There are only 20 guests so I wondered who, because everyone is the same... just having fun in the ocean chatting about which sport we are doing!

But the clarity... and focus stood out...

I have seen that before in conversations with another mate who is a billionaire...

So what has this got to do with 'are you too old?'...

Well, the stories I was telling about my projects were before he was even born!

Yup... I am intentionally being vague out of respect for 'who'...

But the lesson is...

He has achieved HUGE massive results in only 10, maybe a little more working years!

So, one way of looking at it is...

I am too old, I've missed the boat...

ORRRRRR

People achieve HUGE results in a short amount of time and that can be the inspiration...

Sooooo...

What do we need to let go of to move quickly?

What lens do we need to see the opportunities in front of us?

What old beliefs are holding us back?

(I watched Inside Out 2 last night with my daughter and I loved they mentioned beliefs and self identity)

To that point, what emotion may have the controls/decisions which maybe should take a step back?

Anyway, my offering...

You have plenty of time, but how quickly do you want the result?

It's a choice!

Fire up those dreams again!!!!!!!

Enjoy your day!
